SOMATICS
Somatic sessions are fundamentally about a deep practice of attention. I don’t come with an agenda about how your body should feel or function, or what your intentions for somatic practice should be (so long as those intentions are non harming to self & others). Instead, we co-create a safe enough container to feel & respond to your embodied experience, moment by moment - not what you think you should be feeling, or wish you were feeling, but what’s actually happening right now. We learn together what moving through the world is like for you; & if or how you want that to change.
Our tools are simple: touch (if/when desired), movement, breath, observation of sensation. My job is to be a loving supporter, sometimes guide, & non judgmental witness. Your job is to stay as present as possible & cultivate compassionate curiosity towards your own experience. We work gently & slowly, never too much or too fast, emphasizing pleasure & internal resourcing.
This is a powerful way of attending to our bodies & all that they hold. Many people find that practice brings them more embodiment, nervous system regulation, self connection & awareness, sense of internal safety, & agency. These skills can be extremely supportive to people with a history of trauma. They can also support us while we work to change the material conditions & systems that continue to cause harm. My hope is that somatic practice allows us to find more liberation in our bodies & ways of being in the world.
60 minutes ~ $120
Tips are appreciated if you have the funds & will go towards providing more mutual aid sessions, but are never expected. Please don’t let this get in the way of booking a session!
If these fees are prohibitive, please check out the Mutual Aid page
Notes Before Booking an Appointment:
“Somatics” is an umbrella term (& a bit of a buzzword these days) that can mean many different things. I have tried to be specific here about the tools & approaches that I use in my own practice. If you feel confused, feel free to book a consult call.
While many people experience the benefits that I’ve listed above, there are no guarantees. Your history is utterly unique, your experience is vast, unfolding & unpredictable; & I have my own limitations as a practitioner. What I can promise is that when you pay attention to something it changes. And, I will help you discern whether this practice (right now, & with me) is working for you.
My current education & skill level allow me to work best with people who are able to feel sensations in their body, & are not completely overwhelmed by those sensations. This may not be you right now & that’s ok! If this is the case, I suggest that you seek out a somatic psychotherapist or a somatic experiencing practitioner. If you’re not sure, you can book a consult, where we can talk & do a brief embodiment exercise together.
